4 Ways to Preserve Truth in Your Community
In today’s world, where division and uncertainty often cloud our interactions, the message of Matthew 5:13-14 resonates more than ever: “You are the salt of the earth; you are the light of the world.”
Salt preserves and enhances flavor, while light dispels darkness. As followers of Jesus, we are called to shine brightly, preserving what is good and illuminating the truth of the Gospel in our communities.
How can we embody this call?
1. Know Christ
Understanding who Christ is — God’s Son and our Savior — is foundational. 1 John 5:20 tells us that we can have true understanding through Him. Knowing Him intimately equips us to share His love with others meaningfully.
2. Grow in Christ
Staying connected to Christ through His Word and prayer is vital. Philippians 2:12 encourages us to work out our salvation with fear and trembling, while 2 Peter 3:18 calls us to grow in grace and knowledge. In our busy lives, this means making time for Scripture and prayer and cultivating a deeper relationship with God.
3. Serve Christ
While God doesn’t need our service, serving Him is our joyful response to His love. Colossians 1:16 reminds us that everything was created through Him. Our service is an expression of gratitude and faithfulness, rooted in the realization of His great love for us, as highlighted in 1 Samuel 12:24. Volunteering in our communities, helping those in need, or simply being a kind neighbor can reflect Christ’s love in action.
4. Share Christ
Afterhhis resurrection, Jesus commanded his disciples to share the gospel (Mark 16:15). This call extends to all of us. When we make Christ our Lord and Savior, he empowers us with the Holy Spirit to share the Good News (Acts 1:8). This means engaging in conversations about our faith, sharing our personal testimonies, and inviting others into the light of Christ.
In my country of Cambodia, being salt and light is not just a calling; it’s a necessity. How about your neighborhood, your city, your country? As we step out in faith, knowing Christ, growing in him, serving him, and sharing him, we contribute to the restoration of the world. Join me today to embrace our identity as salt and light, illuminating the path for others and preserving the beauty of God’s creation in a world that desperately needs hope.
