God’s Voice to the Needy

When Joy was asked what phrase reflects her personal vision and mission, her answer was “God’s voice to the needy.” This phrase has been what has set her out on her mission to preach the Gospel to people and minister to others throughout the South Cotabato, Philippines region. As her profession, Joy works for a broadcasting station called Far East Broadcasting Company as a program supervisor. Joy felt called to broadcasting after college and has been blessed with the opportunity to broadcast the Gospel on a daily basis. Three languages are predominantly spoken throughout this region — Hiligaynon, Cebuano, and Tagalog — and this broadcasting company produces programs in these local dialects to different people groups.

Joy reached these elementary students in an indigenous community in Koronadal, South Cotabato, in partnership with the Child Evangelism Fellowship.

As a broadcaster, Joy “loves interviewing people and bringing out inspiration and encouragement from their experiences.” Joy hopes that, from these experiences, she is able to enhance her learnings through the leadership experience and meet other leaders in other parts of the globe and learn from their experiences. She also hopes that these interactions become moments that lead people closer to God in their walk with Him.

In Joy’s personal life, she is a pastor’s wife and has been blessed with the opportunity to be involved with the children’s and youth ministries within the church her husband pastors. Through this involvement, Joy has been a part of teaching, discipling, and equipping young people to do outreaches in the neighborhood and nearby villages. This specific area of South Cotabato is known as being a non-sectarian city- which means that Christians and Muslims live together in harmony.

Joy challenged these young leaders to share the Gospel at their respective schools.

Due to this, Christians and Muslims cross paths throughout each day which, as Joy mentions, gives her many interactions with Muslims. This has opened up many opportunities for her to create relationships with these people, pray for them, and teach others how to do the same. These interactions have given her a new heart for Muslim people and sparked conversation that otherwise potentially wouldn’t have occurred.

Children play a games together in Joy’s community, where Joy spoke to them about sharing the joy of having Christ as a Savior and friend.

Her involvement within the church has sparked a new calling within her which has led to her organizing an annual Vacation Bible School, a children’s outreach ministry, a medical outreach, and an outreach ministry to indigenous people groups. “As God’s mouthpiece, appealing for the verdict and equipping others to end Gospel poverty in South Central Mindanao, she aims to equip 100 young people to share the Gospel in the next year.” Joy’s pursuit of sharing the Gospel with others is shown both within her vocation and personal life and she gives all Glory to God. Her pursuit in furthering her knowledge of The Gospel and dedication of quality time with God each day is what continues to give her the strength to follow God’s call on her life. Joy reminds believers that “every cent you invest in God’s Kingdom is surely not in vain because the lives you touched by your giving multiplies a thousand-fold, reaching the lost which translates to eternal gains.”
