Jaimie Oliver Garande is a Haggai leader in Zimbabwe with over 20 years professional experience as a solicitor. He is a Managing Partner with Gaskins Advisory, published author and a well respected public speaker, and does not-for-profit work through his foundation, My Destiny, Inc., which is focused on raising aspirations within young people, providing leadership, capacity building, and entrepreneurship training. Jaimie reflects on a passage of Scripture below and tells us how we can pray for Zimbabwe.

“Do you see a man skillful in his work? He will stand before kings; he will not stand before obscure men.” Proverbs 22:29

A few years ago I was speaking at a Kingdom-focused business event in neighboring South Africa, and one of the attendees asked what I thought he needed to do in order to make a quantum leap in his life and business. My answer — he had to increase his value.

We measure value in different ways — our value to our spouses, families, even our value to God. But we don’t talk enough about market value — specifically what the market will pay you for your level of skill. Market value is a dispassionate measure that has everything to do with the size of problems you are able to solve. Solve big problems skillfully and you will find yourself before influential men who will compensate you accordingly. Solve small problems inefficiently and you will be consigned to serving mean and obscure men who have neither the capacity or desire to pay you.

How can we pray for your country, Jaimie? Please pray for Zimbabwe — that the Lord will raise up God-fearing business leaders and bring an end to the visceral cycles of poverty and unemployment that have become an unfortunate norm.

How did the Haggai Leader Experience impact you? Haggai has given me a real understanding of the meaning of Gospel poverty and allowed me to work in partnership with some of my fellow Haggai leaders to eliminate this.
