A Church Planting Strategy in Southeast Asia

When Haggai leader Beryl* finished her Haggai Leader Experience (HLE) with 26 other women online in 2022, she was asked to set at least one ministry goal. She created four:

  1. To make disciples of more people.
  2. Grow the church healthily.
  3. Equip more young leaders both in and beyond the church.
  4. Brave herself to preach more in the pulpit.

Three years prior to her HLE, Beryl and her husband — who live in Southeast Asia in an area known for preventing churches from existing — joined a Gospel-centered church planting global initiative as the country Coach Directors where they recruit, train, and direct a team to coach Gospel-centered church planters from various backgrounds or denominations throughout their nation.

“It is such a beautiful ministry where we can see the beauty of the Gospel transforming the lives of both the church planters and their churches, so they can share the Gospel to both Christians and non-Christians more effectively,” she says.

After her HLE, Beryl set a goal to share the Gospel with 500 people and equip 500 leaders by the end of 2024. That means reaching nearly 3 people every single day. Beryl is exceeding these goals not only through her work with church planters, but in her personal ministry of mentoring young women.

“I train women to be the Gospel-carriers. I also coach female church planters to help them move forward toward their destinations.”

Even in a country where laws are being used to discriminate Christians, Beryl’s outlook is one of hope as she makes Jesus known.

“It is such a privilege for us to live and teach the Gospel to many young leaders, especially church planters, in the hope that they will have healthy Gospel-centered churches that will [share the Gospel] and impact their cities.”

Through Beryl’s courage and commitment to bring restoration to her country through the hope of Jesus, we see God at work.

“From all the new God-given responsibilities I’ve been witnessing how God reaches out to people through the newly planted local churches. We are both grateful and amazed by God and what He is doing. They have been humbling experiences. I’m looking forward to seeing more wonderful work of God in reaching the lost through more Gospel-centered planted churches.”
