Getting Real When It’s Really Tough
El Salvador may be the smallest nation in Central America, but what it lacks in size, it makes up for with astounding resilience and natural beauty. Unfortunately, since the resolution of a traumatic civil war in the 1990s, the country is still fighting. They’ve battled a variety of natural disasters, including hurricanes and earthquakes, that have forced its people to prove their fortitude. The pandemic that arrived in 2020 was certainly no different.
Dr. Victor Segura Lemus, on staff at the Intensive Care Unit of the Escalón Medical Center, has an impressive resumé of international study and professional experience. His attitude of humility and servanthood is refreshing as he works to combat the COVID-19 virus. The doctor sees his profession as an opportunity to bring comfort to a world lost and wracked with pain, and rather than view his accomplishments as personal successes, Dr. Segura Lemus sees them as offerings to an Almighty God and personal Savior.
“I am happy and proud that God has used me to bless and prosper others through my actions,” he said. “I am an insignificant being if Jesus is not present in my life.”
In 2010, the Haggai Leader Experience added a new dimension to the doctor’s ministry. With a renewed conviction for the Gospel, he began writing editorials for a newspaper that addressed the health issues facing El Salvador.
“It has been very pleasant to hear many people tell me that they liked my analysis of reality, but that above all they have been fascinated by the portions of the Bible that I have shared within my opinion briefs and have felt a relief and unloading by reading these pieces of the word,” said Dr. Segura Lemus.
With the inspiration of the Holy Spirit and the resources of Haggai, Dr. Segura Lemus serves as an incredible example of God’s hand in the lives of His people and in the world.
Watch a day in the life of Dr. Victor, and what life is like as a physician during the pandemic.
