Notes From My Diary: Double Your Impact
Our founder, Dr. John Edmund Haggai, went to be with the Lord in 2020. As we uphold his legacy, we continue to draw from the wisdom he left behind. You’ll find his reflections from the years past are timelier and more necessary than ever. The following was written in 2013 and modified for the December 2022 edition of Impact Magazine.
My friends know I frequently underestimate. “Double Your Impact” underestimates the benefit of national ministry — by a long way. Where else can donors support a world-class, world-changing ministry and get a second one thrown in for no charge? That is exactly what happens when Haggai’s internationally equipped leaders join forces in their home nations. They establish alumni associations and get down to the business of reproducing the equipping program for local leaders.
A national seminar provides unique benefits:
- It strengthens national leaders through the unique power of the community.
- It allows them to do Haggai equipping in the local language.
- It takes place in a single cultural environment.
- It ensures that participants share common goals in terms of national interests.
In addition, a national seminar gives the advantage of immediate and relevant feedback. Communications in a national seminar include illustrations understood by all participants. It gives the participants the benefit of interactive creativity that relates to their unique challenges and efforts in sharing the Gospel.
Since 1969, our internationally equipped leaders have pledged to pass on their equipping. We ask them to reach an additional 100 leaders with their skills, and our research shows that, on average, they far exceed that goal. National ministries provide a support structure to that commitment, including curriculum requirements and a system to equip national faculty.
In the early years, donors generously funded that program. Today, donors contribute nothing to national ministries: It rests on the power of the Holy Spirit and the determination of alumni to carry forward the vision of Haggai International with their own resources.
