When Teens Hear the Gospel

As a teenager, Haggai leader Farida* saw the Word of God come alive in her life when she trusted Him as her Savior. She shares, “I came to know about a missionary church close to our house. The Lord revealed Himself to me during my visit to that church. In the subsequent months, as I experienced more of the Lord, I surrendered my life to Jesus and followed the Lord in water baptism. Ever since, I have been knowing and growing in the Lord, and desire to serve and honor my Savior even more.”

Now, as an adult, Farida uses that same Word to show today’s teenagers that it is still alive and well and has the answer to so many of their questions. “As a Sunday school teacher to teenagers, by God’s grace I have been able to regularly sow God’s Word into their lives. And as a mentor to young girls, I try to inspire them to follow God and grow in His Word.”

“I truly believe that His Word is ‘a lamp to my feet and a light to my path’” (Psalm 119:105 ESV).

Farida was able to stay home in India and be equipped through the Virtual Haggai Leader Experience at the same time! She found it such a blessing to multitask and be home to take care of things there, while also continuing her engineering work and participating with other Christians from around the world — virtually. She gratefully says, “By the grace of God, continual prayer, and the affirmative support of Haggai’s leadership team, I have reached this milestone. My Haggai journey has been full of learning, some from the formal classes and many from what I have learned from being in the company of such passionate and committed leaders, facilitators, and fellow participants.”

Since her equipping, Farida reaffirms that discipling young believers by systematically teaching them God’s Word is still true to her core. The Haggai sessions helped her realize that it is not enough to just diligently work for God’s kingdom, but to also equip more leaders to fulfill the Gospel mandate, especially the youth. She organized a camp for her church youth, during which many were convicted and sincerely committed to use their gifts, talents, abilities, and resources for the Lord’s work, and have already started to bear fruit. She also received the inspiration to form a team to prepare new Gospel tracts on topics like depression, fear, the purpose of life, confusion, true love, and more.

She explains, “I believe that if these tracts are prepared and translated into regional languages, they can help reach many. These tracts can equip believers to distribute them prayerfully and wisely in their areas of influence and effectively spread the Word to help end Gospel poverty.”
