Pope Tawadros II originally studied pharmacy and went on to manage a state-owned pharmaceutical factory. He joined a monastery to study theology for two years and was ordained a priest in 1989. He was already a Haggai leader when appointed to the papacy in 2012.
Pope Tawadros II has provided firm leadership for Egypt’s Christian community of 10 million during one of the most volatile periods of Egyptian history.
