Sarah Lim: Leading with Holistic Witness in Southeast Asia

Sarah Lim* didn’t begin with plans to start a ministry. She simply followed Jesus into the lives of people carrying wounds so deep that traditional approaches often miss them. Today, as founder and ministry leader of Hesed Ministry, she does exactly that, leading with both compassion and courage in a context where sharing the Gospel requires creativity, cultural awareness, and deep commitment.

Southeast Asia presents particular challenges. Christianity is not the majority faith, and religious sensitivity runs high. Spiritual misunderstanding is common. Many people navigate layers of emotional pain and daily pressures that can make them resistant to a purely verbal Gospel message.

Rather than defaulting to a single approach, Sarah’s weaves multiple threads together. She teaches daily through Zoom sessions, sharing God’s grace and freedom with people who may never step into a church building. She visits orphanages and elderly homes, offering both prayer and pastoral presence. She trains others to minister healing and deliverance. She also leads small groups that encourage believers to grow in faith and invest in others.

When Sarah was accepted to the Haggai Leader Experience (HLE) , it confirmed to her that small beginnings matter. Through the HLE, she met Christian leaders from different countries and backgrounds facing similar challenges. She was no longer a solo practitioner; she was part of a global movement of leaders thinking about Kingdom impact.

The experience deepened her conviction that multiplication, not just individual impact, was her calling. She returned home more intentional about equipping leaders and developing small groups. Spiritually, the HLE gave her greater courage to continue preaching Gospel hope in a context where such witness is countercultural.

What ties Sarah’s various approaches together isn’t method; it’s conviction. A young girl stealing food from a refrigerator doesn’t need correction but rather the truth that she is loved and valued. An elderly woman in a wheelchair doesn’t just need prayer but needs to see Jesus as someone who restores wholeness. A family in poverty needs neighbors who demonstrate Christ’s compassion through material care.

This is a Gospel witness that is creative, adaptable, and deeply rooted in local realities. Sarah demonstrates what happens when a leader takes context seriously, embraces holistic witness, and connects local faithfulness to global mission. In Southeast Asia, where many have never met a Christian, she is helping close that gap one relationship at a time.
